The Wave Pictures

”David Tattersall is the greatest guitarist of his generation” – Marc Riley, BBC Radio 6

They’re possibly the best live band we’ve ever worked with” – Moshi Moshi Records

Led by prolific songwriter and blistering guitarist David Tattersall, and backed by a relentlessly driving rhythm section of Franic Rozycki and Jonny “Huddersfield” Helm on bass and drums,  the Wave Pictures in their current form have been recording a steady stream of albums and touring all over the UK, Europe and US since around 2006.

The band started with childhood friends David and Franic in the small village of Wymeswold, influenced as much by listening to their parents’ old blues records as they were by John Peel’s radio show. They are masters of classic rock and roll traditions in the mould of Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, The Small Faces or early Rolling Stones, but this filtered through a more modern indie songwriting context ala Jonathan Richman, the Mountain Goats, or Herman Dune, keeps it fresh and puts them in a class of their own. Imagine something like a mash up between the Violent Femmes and Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Modern Lovers with Rory Gallagher on lead guitar, or the Go-Betweens vocals on top of Bo Diddley’s band.

Since they secured drummer Johnny Helm, relocated to London, and signed with indie label Moshi Moshi in 2008, The Wave Pictures have released 6 albums, as well as numerous additional EP’s, singles and side projects. Their varied discography captures a range of styles and influences, from garage rock to afro-pop to country punk, all recorded live with few overdubs and no need or interest in guitar pedals, special effects, or keyboards.

2013 saw the release of critically acclaimed double album City Forgiveness, including 7/10 reviews from NME, Drowned in Sound, and The Line of Best Fit. Their 2014 collaboration with Stanley Brinks on Fika Recordings made some waves with the popularity of the single Orange Juice, supported by tours and festival appearances. Their latest album, Great Big Flamingo Burning Moon is scheduled to be released on Moshi Moshi Records in February, 2015, and was co-written and produced by one of their all time heroes Billy Childish. The excitement of both parties at the collaboration is palpable and the result is a garage rock masterpiece. A press campaign and spring tours of the UK and Europe are scheduled in support of the release.

The Wave Pictures are also available to DJ from their extensive collection of 50’s-60’s R&B and Rock n Roll hits.
